The New Era of Management
"Powerful concentration amplifies the effectiveness of any kind of activity."
- Daniel Goleman
After observing that most methods of meditation were intended to foster concentration, Daniel Goleman wrote his first book, The Varieties of Meditative Experience published in 1977, and republished in 1988 as The Meditative Mind, in which he describes different meditation systems. In the page 122 of this book, he says: "The need for the meditator to retrain his attention, whether through concentration or mindfulness, is the single invariant ingredient in the recipe for altering consciousness of every meditation system".
Daniel Goleman really became a global refference in his field, when he authored the internationally best-selling book, Emotional Intelligence, published in 1995, that spent more than one year on the New York Times Best Seller list. In this book, he brought new concepts regarding emotional intelligence, offering to readers thoughts and advises regarding self-knowledge, better understanding of other people's attitudes, behaviours, and how to better interact with others.
According to Goleman, these are the five domains of emotional intelligence:
1- Knowing your emotions
2- Managing your emotions
3- Motivating yourself
4- Recognizing and understanding other people's emotions
5- Managing relationships, ie., managing the emotions of others
The multiple inteligence idea was first structured by Howard Gardner, which was already a post in this blog: http://hrising.blogspot.com/2010/09/somar-talentos-para-melhorar-resultados.html
In 2009 was published his new book titled ECOLOGICAL INTELLIGENCE, in which he reveals the hidden environmental consequences of what we make and buy, and shows how new market forces can drive the essential changes we all must make to save our planet. “Ecological intelligence” denotes the ability to adapt to our ecological niche.
Today, October 27, 2010, Daniel Goleman made a presentation at Insper( Institutu de Ensino e Pesquisa) in São Paulo. Take a moment to check more about Goleman's thoughts and work in his site: http://danielgoleman.info/
