Modern organizations recognize the importance of HOW people achieve
their goals, not just WHAT they achieve.
Feedback is the most powerful, however yet, most under used
management tool. Unfortunately nowadays a representative number of individuals in the workplace suffer from lack of performance
feedback, not after their formal Annual Pe
rformance Appraisal, but rather informal, ongoing and specific
feedback.
Feedback has strong
links to SATISFACTION and PRODUCTIVITY because it is very motivating and energizing. People like to feel they belong and they are identified with their organization. ONGOING FEEDBACK helps people to get to know about how others perceive their contributions, and they feel they are treated with respect and are supported by their leaders and colleagues.
Asking and receiving feedback is crucial because only with feedback from others we get to know:
- Whether or not our goals are being achieved.
- How a role impacts business strategy.
- What are the expectations for that role.
- What is going well and what areas require improvement.
- How others in the workplace are impacted by my role and performance.
- And much more...
Last but not least... despite we do not have
to always agree with people’s perceptions and inputs, it is really important to be aware of
them.
