Learning from Nature - Aprendendo com a Natureza

We tend to judge based on what we see and hear, before looking deeper and finding out that there are more then what meets our eyes and ears.

We all  know how an iceberg is structured. It is only visible a small fraction above the water line or water surface level. The larger part is not seen because it is hidden beneath the water.

Many authors use the iceberg image as a metaphor for illustrating their theories. Some use it to explain the unconscious mind and its relationship to the conscious mind, and how the two parts of our mind can better work together. Others use this metaphor as a representation of how CULTURE is like. In different  cultures, at the surface level we only see what is mainly defined by popular or stereotype culture. At the intermediate level we see what is the meaning and norms of a culture such as signs, words, gestures, and behaviors. At the deeper level is where we can find the deepest beliefs such as TRADITIONS and VALUES.

TRADUÇÃO: Temos a tendência de julgar pelo que vemos e ouvimos, antes de olharmos mais profundamente para descobrir que existem mais coisas, além do que os nos olhos podem ver e os nossos ouvidos podem ouvir.

Todos nós conhecemos a estrutura de um iceberg. É visível apenas uma porção pequena acima da linha d'água. A maior parte fica submersa.

Muitos autores usam a imagem do iceberg como uma metáfora  para ilustrar as suas teorias. Aguns o usam para explicar a mente inconsciente e a sua relação com a mente consciente,  como estas duas partes da mente podem funcionar melhor conjuntamente. Outros usam esta metáfora como uma representação de CULTURA. Em culturas diferentes, ao nível superficial somente podemos ver o que é  normalmente definido como popular ou estereótipo. No nível intermediário  podemos ver o que é o significado e normas  desta cultura tais como sinais, palavras, gestual e comportamentos. No nível mais profundo é onde podemos encontrar as crenças mais profundas como as TRADIÇÕES e os VALORES.
