Diversity in São Paulo - Brazil



On January 25, São Paulo celebrates 458 years.

São Paulo is the Brazilian state that has the largest population, industrial park and economic production of the country. The capital, São Paulo, is also the largest city in South America.

São Paulo is also the Brazilian state with the greater ethnicity diversity in Brazil and in Latin America.

European descent - People of Italian descent predominate in many towns, including the capital city and the northeast part of the state, which is 65% Italian descent. Portuguese and Spanish descendants are present in most towns.

African descent - Those of African ancestry are relatively numerous. Many of the African descent living in São Paulo are immigrants from the Northeast of Brazil.

Asian descent -São Paulo is home to the largest Asian population in Brazil, as well to the largest Japanese community outside of Japan itself.

Middle Eastern descent: There are many people of Middle East descent, mostly Syrian and Lebanese people. The majority of Brazilian Jews live in the state, especially in the capital city but there are also communities in the so called Greater São Paulo.
